Donations for IMPD horse exceed expectations
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Jake, the four-hoofed member of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s (IMPD) mounted patrol unit is doing fine after surgery.
Dr. Jan Hawkins, Purdue University surgeon, said Jake is out of surgery, standing and back in the stall recovering.
Dr. Hawkins told IMPD he was pleased with the surgery and that everything went according to plan.
He located and removed a tissue ball, which he felt was only fat and not additional cancer.
Jake did have some excessive bleeding post-op, but Dr. Hawkins was able to control it.
The donations exceeded IMPD’s expectations. As of Wednesday afternoon, the donations exceeded $4,000.
IMPD has stated that any money left over after the surgery bill is paid will go towards the purchase of new horses.
IMPD Mounted Patrol is grateful for all of the support given to Jake, the unit, the IMPD Horse Patrol Association and the department during this time.
