Thousands compete in downtown gymnastics event

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We’re six months away from the summer Olympic games in Rio, but this weekend Indianapolis is hosting a competition of its own.

The 24th annual Circle of Stars Gymnastics Invitational attracted more than 5,000 gymnasts from across the country.

The Indiana Convention Center hosted the competition.

It’s one of the largest gymnastics competitions in the United States.

Organizers say some of the young people competing at the skill level just below those in the Olympics.

The competition is free to the public and runs through Sunday.
