GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — Franciscan Health in Indianapolis is trying to do its part to raise people’s awareness about the importance of having a healthy heart.

The health care provider’s Mega Heart Exhibit in Greenwood Park Mall is 21 feet long and 12 feet high.

Franciscan Health Heart Center partnered with Medical Inflatables to create the exhibit and educate more people on how the heart works, heart diseases and cardiovascular health. The exhibit also explains medical treatments for heart attacks, and coronary bypass grafts and stents.

Visitors enter the exhibit through a representation of the largest vein that feeds the heart, the superior vena cava, and exit through the largest artery, the aorta, that leaves the organ.

Patty Lake, Franciscan Health cardiac rehab supervisor, said, “We want to educate people on the risk factors for heart disease and what you can do to decrease your risk of developing heart disease.”

Lake says to make a turnaround in heart health, people have to pay attention to some alarming trends.

“Today, we’re seeing younger and younger people coming into cardiac rehab, and it’s important we start at a younger age working on our risk factors,” Lake said. “We’re finding teenagers with high cholesterol numbers. We’re not moving as much as we used to and we have poor diets and all of that combined.”

The display is located near the food court and the main entrance to the former Sears store.
