Indiana state trooper uninjured after patrol car struck during traffic stop

BATESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — An Indiana state trooper was not injured after the trooper’s patrol car was rear-ended during a traffic stop Saturday morning.

According to ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, the crash happened in Batesville on Saturday morning around 10:45 while the trooper was conducting a traffic stop of a semi.

The trooper’s vehicle was struck by a passenger vehicle during the stop on eastbound I-74 near mile marker 152 in Ripley County, Wheeles said in a tweet Saturday afternoon. The trooper was outside his vehicle speaking to the truck driver when his patrol car was struck by a minivan.

The trooper was not injured in the crash.

Four occupants of the minivan were transported to hospitals, including a six-year-old child who was seriously injured. All of the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Wheeles said the trooper’s emergency lights were activated at the time of the crash.

No other information about the crash was immediately available.
