1 dead, 1 injured in Kokomo house fire

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — One person died and a second is in the hospital after a house fire in Kokomo.

The Kokomo Fire Department responded on Saturday afternoon to a single-story residence in the 1800 block of South LaFontain Street and arrived to find heavy fire coming from the front of the house.

Firefighters pulled two people from the home. One person died in the fire; the second was taken to a local hospital and then on to an Indianapolis hospital. The identity of the person who died was not known Saturday night, according to the fire department, and the condition of the person was not available.

Two other people attempted to rescue the victims. Those individuals were treated at the scene by emergency medical professionals and released, the department said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
