Morgan County deputies receive 35 life-saving devices

Morgan County, Indiana sheriff gets Bolt for the Heart donation

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Deputies in Morgan County have new life-saving equipment thanks to Bolt for the Heart.

The Indiana nonprofit donated 35 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. The devices will be put in all of the department’s sheriff cars.

AEDs are used to save a person in cardiac arrest. These are especially useful for police because in most cases officers are the first people on scene of any type of accident.

Sheriff Richard Myers said, “When you are out there on the scene, you want to have every tool available to you to be able to say I did everything to come out the best way possible and this is one tool that we could have that could possibly save a life.”

Before Friday, the department did not have a single AED.
