Hundreds take the Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Hundreds of people took the jump into Eagle Creek Reservoir on Saturday.

It was all part of a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. On Friday, more than 600 high school and middle school students jumped in the freezing cold water.

Special Olympic organizers say Polar Plunge events gather much-needed money.

It will be used for competitions and the athletes.

Local athletes will raise money themselves and local teams that will help pay for uniforms, transportation and meals.

Some of the money will be used for state championship events.
