Indiana fire stations mourn loss of Terre Haute firefighter from COVID-19

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WISH) — Fire departments throughout Indiana are sending thoughts and prayers to the Terre Haute Fire Department after a firefighter died from complications of COVID-19 Sunday morning.

Multiple departments report John Schoffstall, 41, died early Sunday morning after testing positive for COVID-19. According to Zionsville Fire Department, Schoffstall was an 11-year veteran of the Terre Haute Fire Department.

THFD on April 3 first posted the hashtag #JohnStrong and later thanked the public for “prayers for our brother John Schoffstall.”

Sunday morning the department updated their social media profile showing a badge with a black line and John Schoffstall’s name.

Departments throughout the state have taken to social media to express their condolences.
