Fishers AgriPark set for summer opening
FISHERS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – The Fishers Parks & Recreation team has announced plans to open its urban farm Fishers AgriPark this summer. The 33-acre park will offer free “u-pick” produce, a farm-themed play structure, an educational space, an animal area with livestock, and will host seasonal corn maze and pumpkin patch events.
The department says the park’s public fields and gardens will be home to seasonal produce and fresh flowers that residents can to take home, free of charge. Admission to the park is also free to members of the public.
Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness says the park will be a unique asset for the community, unlike any of the city’s other parks.
“There will be so many opportunities for our residents to engage with the farm, from picking fresh produce for your pantry, to helping to feed the animals, to hiking and exploring the gardens. I’m so excited for our community to experience this space,” said Fadness.
Preparations have been ongoing over the last several months, and the Parks team says it has been busy prepping the park for a public summer opening. The team says a portion of the produce grown will be donated to local food shelters.
“Fishers Parks staff are working hard this spring to deliver a brand-new experience to Fishers,” said Sarah Sandquist, director of Fishers Parks. “We can’t wait to invite the community to this new space, and will have ample opportunities to volunteer, learn, discover, and be a part of something very special.”
The park will be one of the nation’s largest urban farms, and Fishers Parks says it pays homage to Fishers’ agricultural roots and will inspire future generations of farmers, scientists, agronomists, chefs, and more.
