WISH-TV to broadcast Indiana Republican, Democratic conventions

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — DuJuan McCoy, owner, president, and CEO of Circle City Broadcasting (parent company of WISH-TV and MyINDY-TV 23), the Indiana Republican Party, and the Indiana Democratic Party today announced exclusive partnerships to broadcast state conventions for both political parties.

News 8, your local news source, will cover both events live from the WISH-TV studios early this summer. In-studio coverage will include state party officials, candidates, current legislators, and will be anchored by familiar faces from the News 8 team. According to both organizations, this is the first time in recent memory that either convention has been broadcast live on television.

Viewers can watch the Indiana Democratic Convention Thursday, June 4, at 5:30 p.m. The Indiana Republican Convention will air Thursday, June 18, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Additional details for each of the 90-minute broadcasts will be announced at a later date, as they are finalized.

“As a local news source, we don’t take sides when it comes to political coverage,” said McCoy. “That’s why we’re pleased to be the only originating station in the state bringing live coverage of both these events directly into the homes of viewers. The recent pandemic has exposed gaps in access to web-based coverage, but we know that nearly 99% of American homes have a television. That’s why it’s important to offer free, over-the-air coverage of significant events affecting the lives of Hoosiers whenever feasible.”

Both events will also be streamed live on WISHTV.com.
