LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — A man found shot at a Lawrence gas station on Friday afternoon died later at a hospital, police said.

Shortly after 5:40 p.m., police were called to a person shot at the BP gas station at East 46th Street and North Shadeland Avenue.

Gary Woodruff, deputy chief of Lawrence Police Department, said a man in a car veered to the west off northbound Shadeland Avenue near 24th Street and went over a median. The car came to rest at the gas station. The man was found to have been shot at least once.

Police aren’t sure where the shooting might have happened.

The man’s identity was not immediately available Friday night.

Police do not have any suspects. A witness said a person ran or walked from the area after the incident, but it’s unknown if that person was part of the shooting, Woodruff said.

Anyone with information was encouraged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
