Fitness centers awarded to three Indiana schools
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Governor Eric Holcomb and fitness personality Jake Steinfeld have announced the three Indiana schools that were selected to receive a $100,000 DON’T QUIT! fitness center from the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils. Holcomb’s office says the awards will help keep Hoosier students focused on fitness and healthy living.
The recipients include Perry Meridian Middle School in Indianapolis, Martin T. Krueger Middle School in Michigan City, and Southside Middle School in Muncie.
“This has been an extraordinary year. Even though COVID-19 impacted the school year, our DON’T QUIT! Campaign received an overwhelming response from schools around the great state of Indiana. We had many exceptional entries this year, but three schools really embodied our mission of building a nation of the fittest, healthiest kids in the world,” said Steinfeld.
Holcomb’s office says the schools were chosen because they each demonstrate leadership in getting and keeping their students fit.
“Wellness in all aspects is more important now than ever and we’re thankful to Jake for bringing the DON’T QUIT! Campaign to our state,” said Holcomb.
The governor’s office says each fitness center is financed through public/private partnerships with companies like The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO), Anthem Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM), and Nike (NYSE: NKE). California-based TuffStuff Fitness International provides the program’s fitness equipment.
This year the NFGFC says its program will have completed 36 states and will make its way into all 50 states in the coming years. The NFGFC aims to encourage and reward innovation in the field of youth fitness by awarding fitness centers to schools that use new and unique methods to promote student physical activity and wellness.
The fitness centers will be unveiled during ribbon cutting ceremonies this fall.
