Fort Wayne Mayor announces grants for nonprofits
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – The city of Fort Wayne is awarding more than $400,000 in Community Development Block Grant and Emergency Solutions Grant funds to 17 local nonprofit organizations. Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry says the funding will support shelter, employment skills, domestic violence support and youth development.
Henry says the funding is more than the usual yearly grant allocations; as a result of the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development waived restrictions on how much funding can be invested in nonprofit agencies.
“During this troubling time, I am grateful that we are able to provide such substantial support for our nonprofit partners,” said Henry. “These dollars will help our most vulnerable residents during a time of crisis and provide valuable services to improve their quality of life.”
The grant recipients include:
- Boys and Girls Clubs
- Brightpoint
- Catholic Charities
- Housing Opportunities Program and Fort Wayne Housing Authority
- Just Neighbors and Interfaith Homeless Network
- Language Services Network
- Lutheran Social Services of Indiana Inc.
- RSVP of Allen County Inc. and Volunteer Center
- The Literacy Alliance
- Turnstone
- Vincent Village
- Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana
- Renaissance Pointe YMCA
- YWCA of Northeast Indiana
The city says it uses a competitive application process to award the grants, and a volunteer committee helps score the applications and makes funding recommendations.
