Colts, Riley Hospital announce statewide push to reduce infant deaths

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Colts paired with Riley Children’s Hospital Wednesday and announced a statewide push to cut down on unnecessary infant deaths.

The new effort will educate parents on things like safe sleep practices.

According to the CDC, each year 3,500 infants die from sudden infant death syndrome in the United States. The most common sudden infant death syndrome is SIDS, which most commonly happens during sleep.

Indiana has the 10th highest infant mortality rate in the nation.

The two organizations announced the new effort at 10:30 a.m. in Carmel at the Main Atrium at Indiana University North Hospital.
