2 tornadoes confirmed in northern Indiana; Fort Wayne woman dies clutching child
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/AP) — The northern Indiana office of the National Weather Service in North Webster has surveyed damage of Monday evening’s derecho event.
One tornado was located in southwestern St. Joseph County, just southwest of Wakarusa. The tornado was rated an EF-1 with estimated winds of 110 mph, and was on the ground for 2-1/2 miles.
The tornado damaged grain bins and barns, as well as significant crop damage along the path.
The second tornado was located just north of North Webster in Kosciusko County. This twister was rated an EF-1 with estimated winds of 90 mph, and on the ground for a 1-1/2 miles.
Significant tree damage was done along the path, which also resulted in some homes damaged due to falling trees. A church also sustained roof damage. The tornado eventually went over Lake Webster and dissipated.

Also, the Associated Press reports Isabel E. Atencio died at a hospital after firefighters pulled her from debris inside her mobile home in Fort Wayne after high winds rolled it onto its side Monday night. Firefighters found the 73-year-old woman under debris inside her toppled trailer and discovered that she was clutching a 5-year-old boy believed to be her grandson, said Adam O’Connor, deputy chief of the Fort Wayne Fire Department. The boy had minor injuries.
