Warmer weekend with spotty rain chances
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The summer heat and humidity returns for the weekend with a few isolated storms possible for parts of the state.
Today:
Upper level wave southeast of Indiana is helping to churn some clouds to the southern portions of the state this morning. With the heating of the afternoon, expect a few isolated showers and storms to develop – mainly south of I-70.
Highs make a return to the middle 80s this afternoon.
Tonight:
Any rain hanging around should diminish by early/mid evening. Partly cloudy conditions with some areas of fog possible overnight. Lows fall to the upper 60s.
Sunday:
Dry and humid start to the day with some areas of fog possible. Partly cloudy conditions are anticipated for the rest of the day.
Indy 500 Forecast:
A few isolated storms could develop by the afternoon – most of which should be east of the city – but we can’t rule out a rogue shower/storms around the track.
Meanwhile, temperatures will be hot, with green flag temps in the lower 80s. Feels like temps for most of the race will be in the lower/mid 90s.
Tropical update:
Two named storms continue to churn in the Atlantic. T.S. Laura and Marco continue a slow northwest and western path, respectively. We could see Laura reach hurricane status by early next week as it enters the Gulf of Mexico. Early projections has a possible landfall along the Gulf coast by mid week next week.
Meanwhile Marco will also march into the Gulf early next week, and could make possible landfall by Monday or Tuesday along the Gulf coast. This could be the first time 2 hurricanes would be in the Gulf of Mexico at the same time. Because of that, there are many questions on how each system may interact with each other’s strength and track.
8 day forecast:
Quiet weather for much of the work/school week. The big story will be the heat building, as 90s look to return by mid-week. Next systems of interest come with a cold front late week, and possibly the remnants of the tropical systems approaching the Gulf of Mexico.
