WATERLOO, Ind. (WISH) — An entire Indiana varsity football team is in quarantine after a high school football player tested positive for coronavirus.

DeKalb High School was notified Tuesday that a varsity football player tested positive for COVID-19. The player played in a game on Friday and also practiced on Saturday. All of the varsity players who traveled to the game have been considered close contacts and have been told to quarantine.

DeKalb High School is located in Waterloo, Ind., a small town in northeastern Indiana, about 30 miles north of Fort Wayne.

“We have hit a rough spot the past couple of days but as we have done in the past and what we will continue to do in the future is come back bigger and better,” DeKalb High School Athletics posted on Facebook. “Keep the heads up and continue to prepare for that next opportunity.”

All of the DHS varsity football games and practices have been suspended through Sept. 4. Varsity practices will resume on Sept. 5.

Freshman players are allowed to continue to practice and play at this time.

The players will be allowed to return to class Sept. 8.

School officials said they will continue to monitor the situation along with the DeKalb County Board of Health.
