2,000 volunteers needed for 10th annual Million Meal Marathon

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — WISH-TV is proud to team up with the Million Meal Movement to be the media sponsor of this year’s Million Meal Marathon.

2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the Million Meal Marathon, the hunger relief organization’s signature event.

Before COVID-19, nearly one million Hoosiers, including one in five children, struggled with food insecurity.

For the past several years, volunteers have gathered for one day at Lucas Oil Stadium to pack nutritious meals for Indiana families fighting hunger at home.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced changes to the event for 2020.

This year, the Million Meal Marathon will stretch over a 30-day period: October 13-November 7.

Organizers are planning for a total of 2,000 volunteers to gather in small groups over that month, to hand pack meals (while observing CDC guidelines).

All of the meals will go to food banks in Indiana, to help Hoosiers in need.

The Million Meal Marathon is also seeking donations to cover the cost of ingredients.
