Million Meal Movement’s new macaroni and cheese offers added nutrients to kids
INDIANAOPOLIS (WISH) — The Million Meal Movement is known for its Rice Soy Casserole dish that has been packaged since the organization started in 2007.
They have now added a product to their line that is putting an added nutritional twist on a kid favorite.
Million Meal Movement launched its mac-and-cheese product with its 10-year celebration of the Million Meal Marathon. It’s not your ordinary mac-and-cheese though. The organization formulated the product to have added nutrients to help kids who suffer from food insecurity.
“We start with one scoop of cheese powder. This cheese powder is formulated specifically for us. It has extra vitamin D and calcium in it,” said Molly Adams with the Million Meal Movement.
A Million Meal Movement team worked with Gleaners Food Bank nutritionists to find that kids who suffer from food insecurity often lack calcium. The vitamin D is added to help kids’ bodies absorb the added nutrients.
The organization designed the product so that kids could make it themselves, just added water to the pouch and put it in the microwave.
Adams tested the product with her son and caught the taste test on video. She says he gave a good review.
