Semi driver killed in I-465 crash
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A semitractor-trailer driver is dead following a crash Wednesday evening on I-465, according to the Indiana State Police.
The fatal crash happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday on I-465 westbound near Allisonville Road.
ISP says Douglas Pauly, 61, of Bay City, Michigan, was killed after his semi was overturned on the interstate. There were no other vehicles or people involved in the crash.
Emergency responders arrived to find the severely damaged semitractor-trailer in the ditch along the right side of I-465. The semi had struck a large utility pole causing power lines to hang low to the ground. The driver of the semi was unconscious and unresponsive, and later pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was being done on Pauly.
Investigators by Thursday afternoon had not yet determined what caused the semi to leave the interstate. No one witnesses the crash.
The ramp from Allisonville Road to I-465 westbound remained closed early Thursday afternoon as crews from Indianapolis Power and Light attempted to fix the damaged pole.
