Most of central, eastern Indiana under tornado watch

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) –   Most of central and eastern Indiana has been placed under a tornado watch until early Thursday morning.

Those counties currently under a tornado watch until 5 a.m. Thursday includes: Bartholomew, Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Decatur, Delaware, Fountain, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Jennings, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Morgan, Parke, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Shelby, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Vermillion and Warren.

A significant severe weather event looks to take aim on much of the midwest Wednesday, including portions of central Indiana.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed areas along and north of I-77 including the Indianapolis metro in a heightened moderate risk for severe storms, while areas to the south are in an enhanced risk for severe storms.

A line of storms is expected to form in northern Illinois by early evening, and race through northern and central Indiana late Wednesday night.

TIMING: Wednesday 11 p.m. – Thursday 5 a.m.

THREATS: Damaging winds in excess of 70mph, large hail, isolated tornadoes and flash flooding.

BE PREPARED: Because severe weather is expected late at night, be sure to have a way to receive warnings. If you have a weather radio, make sure it’s turned on with backup batteries in and fully charged.
