Police investigate, blow up suspicious package downtown
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police investigated two suspicious packages in downtown Indianapolis early Wednesday morning.
They found neither of them were explosives.
One package, which turned out to be a backpack, was found at Washington Street and Delaware Street.
The other was a briefcase which was found at Delaware Street and Vermont Street.
Police say they blew up the briefcase, because it concerned them. They say there were following standard procedure.
“It’s always easy to downplay these things and it’s, you have to fight that urge,” said Lt. Joe Sherron with IMPD. “Because when they found out that there was nothing to it, it’s like meh, but we take these things seriously and do what we’re supposed to do.”
Officials say it’s likely people just left the items behind.
