IMPD: Shots fired at officers on near NE side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A suspect was on the run after he fired shots at an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer on Sunday.
It happened around 11:15 p.m. in the area of 38th Street and Sherman Drive.
IMPD says that Officer Noe Reyes was fired at during a foot pursuit after he tried to stop a black Pontiac Grand Prix for speeding. Officer Reyes observed the vehicle speeding in the area of East 38th Street and Sherman Drive. The suspect fled and lost control of the vehicle. The car came to a stop in a yard in the 3800 block of East 38th Street.
The suspect then fled on foot. Officer Reyes attempted to chase the suspect. The suspect slipped through a privacy fence and when the officer looked through the fence to find the suspect he opened fire on the officer.
The officer didn’t fire back and immediately took cover and set up a perimeter. Officer Reyes was not injured.
The suspect was described as a male who was around 6 feet tall. He was wearing a red jacket with black pants. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stopper at 317-262-TIPS.
