Spellers prepare for the regional spelling bee

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – 31 students are preparing their spelling skills to compete to represent Indiana in the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The regional competition will take place Sunday at 12:15 p.m. at the IUPUI Campus Center Theater.

The Marion County regional spelling bee consists of students who won spelling bees at their own schools and then in one of the three district spelling bees held in Marion County.

Students all the way up to eighth grade and from more than 100 schools competed in the district level.

They sometimes faced up to 25 levels of spelling before a winner was announced.

The regional competition is open to the public. Audience members are encouraged to take pictures during the practice round and post them on social media.
