Indy 500 champ Luyendyk finds missing 1990 winner ring in IMS parking lot

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — After an hourslong search and offers of rewards from IndyCar drivers, Arie Luyendyk’s 1990 Indy 500 winner ring is back on his hand.

Luyendyk, a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, said just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday that he found the missing ring himself behind the spot where he’d parked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Earlier in the night, two IndyCar drivers offered their gloves from this weekend’s Indianapolis 500 qualifying as a reward for helping the ring, which Luyendyk asked for help to find after spending the day at the track.

The missing ring was one of two that he received for winning the 1990 Indianapolis 500.

Luyendyk holds the IMS one- and four-lap speed records, according to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

He became a full-time IndyCar race steward in 2016.
