Woman dies after being shot, set on fire on near-west side
LATEST: IMPD on Aug. 24, 2022, announced the woman who died was Laura Gentry, 44. Police also said a “male” had been arrested, but IMPD provided no additional details.
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman has died after being shot and set on fire Friday morning on the city’s near-west side, according to police.
Just after 5 a.m. Friday, officers were called to a report of a person shot in the 1100 block of Medford Avenue. That’s a residential area northeast of North Tibbs Avenue and West 10th Street.
After arriving on the scene, police found the woman shot and burned, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
On July 20, IMPD said the woman had died on July 19 and the investigation has been turned over to the IMPD Homicide Office.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 44-year-old Laura Gentry.
