Wet and mild weekend ahead

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — After dealing with hot temperatures, humid air, and storms this week, we were rewarded with a marvelous Friday to close out the workweek! However, this pleasant weather will be short lived as we turn towards several rounds of rain and storms for the upcoming weekend.

Friday night: Cool and comfortable conditions will continue for us going into tonight. Isolated showers look to develop after midnight. Rain coverage will become widespread by the middle of the overnight hours.

An isolated strong to severe storm is not out of the question for southwestern and parts of west central Indiana overnight tonight. The main threats are damaging winds and hail.

Lows will dip into the low to mid 60s.

Saturday: Prepare for a wet day with on and off rain and storms. Heavy rainfall and lightning will accompany any thunderstorm.

There is the chance for isolated strong to severe storms Saturday afternoon and evening. The main threat will be damaging winds, but large hail and even an isolated tornado will be possible. Flooding will become a growing concern.

Temperatures will struggle to get out of the 70s for much of the state for our highs.

Sunday: A similarly active day will be on tap for our Sunday with scattered showers and storms throughout the day.

Isolated strong to severe storms will be possible Sunday afternoon with the threat for damaging winds. The flooding threat will continue to be monitored.

Highs will be slightly warmer statewide as we top out in the upper 70s to low 80s.

By the end of the weekend, we could have up to two to three inches of rain across much of central Indiana. Keep in mind, it won’t be raining for the entire day on Saturday and Sunday. The higher rainfall amounts will be determined by which areas get multiple rounds of heavy downpours. Be sure to download the Storm Track 8 weather app as it is an excellent tool to keep up-to-date with accurate radar.

8 Day Forecast: The active weather pattern will continue into next week with daily storm chances all the way through next Friday. A gradual warming trend will work its way into the forecast as we look to get back into the mid 80s by next Wednesday.
