Residents weigh in on water rate hike proposal

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Residents had a chance to sound off Wednesday night about Citizens Energy’s rate hike proposal.

The utility is asking for a water price increase that would amount to about $6 extra every month for the average customer.

The proposal also comes with a request for a low income rate that would offer a 15 percent discount for those who need the help.

Many residents who spoke at the hearing applauded it.

“By allowing this new rate, the households who receive the help not only will get the help to keep their homes in the cold winter months but throughout the year, they’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of less money going to pay for their water,” said resident Lynn Engel.

If you would like to weigh in, you have until Oct. 6.
