INDOT: Company paid for I-65 repairs
TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) INDOT says the construction company involved with the I-65 bridge closure paid for the repairs.
In a statement to WLFI-TV, a spokesman said thus far, Walsh Construction has not submitted a financial claim with justification to seek reimbursement. INDOT will review any claims at the time they are submitted.
The Wildcat Creek Bridge originally closed on Aug. 4 when crews noticed unusual movement and sagging. It opened soon after, but closed again on Aug. 7 when crews noticed a bridge pier sank several inches.
INDOT said the problems started when crews installed steel piers to widen existing piers as part of the construction to make I-65 three lanes throughout Tippecanoe County.
INDOT said Walsh is responsible for that project. INDOT is responsible for design review and construction inspection.
