Grant County woman attacked, killed by pit bull

MATTHEWS, Ind. (WISH) — A woman is dead after being attacked by a dog Monday afternoon, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 2:15 p.m., deputies were called to a residence in the 300 block of High Street in Matthews, Indiana for a report of a dog attack on its owner.

Once on the scene, deputies spotted the woman, Kathleen Bertram, on the floor, bleeding from her neck.

Deputies said the victim’s daughter, Leta Webb, told them her mother and she were in the living room at the time of the attack. Bertram had sat down in an uneven chair, causing her to fall to the floor. The daughter of Webb and the granddaughter of Bertram started crying after the fall. Bertram’s dog, a pit bull, came running into the living room and attacked her.
