3 arrested after shots fired at vehicle in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Three people are in custody after a man fired a gun at a vehicle in Columbus, Indiana, according to the Columbus Police Department.

Just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, officers were called to a house in the 2500 block of 14th Street.

After arriving on the scene, officers learned that after having an argument with someone online, Benji Smith, 44, fired a gun at a vehicle passing his house, police said. Officers believe Smith fired from inside his house.

Also, while on the scene, officers found the rifle believed to have been used in the shooting.

Police said the person in the passing vehicle was not injured.

Inside Smith’s residence, officers found several firearms, drug paraphernalia, narcotics and a large and undetermined amount of money. Additionally, officers also found Trevin Colglazier, 30, hiding under a mattress in the residence. Colglazier had a warrant out for his arrest.

As a result of the shooting and search, Benji Smith, Jessica Smith and Colglazier were taken into custody.

Benji Smith faces preliminary charges for intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a firearm and maintaining a common nuisance. Jessica Smith faces a preliminary charge for maintaining a common nuisance. Also, Colglazier was apprehended for the warrant.
