Native South African pays tribute to countrymen who died on 9/11

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — More than a decade after 9/11, a man from the other side of the world is paying tribute.

Rory Latimer is visiting the United States from South Africa.

He knew he couldn’t let his trip to this country pass without honoring the two South African firefighters who died in those attacks.

At the 9/11 memorial on West Ohio Street on Wednesday, Latimer sang his country’s national anthem, and spoke in memory of Nick Rowe and Craig Gibson.

“Let us keep your memories alive. Memories of those you loved, those you cherished, we’ll keep them alive and remember them,” Latimer said.

Latimer said before he left, many South Africans contacted him saying they would be with him in spirit during the tribute.
