Vogel talks raising family while on the road

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Being a dad is tough enough, but that job gets even tougher when the job requires travel on the road for work night in and night out.

That’s the challenge for Pacers’ head coach Frank Vogel, who has two young daughters, Arianna and Alexa.

“They were raised that way.  They were raised with me being gone a lot,” said Vogel.

“When he travels to all the different places, he’s home like every other night,” said his oldest Alexa.  “It’s kinda hard, but we Facetime him a lot.”

Summer brings a welcome change from the 82 game grind of the NBA season.

“I really love spending time with them in whatever they’re doing, the bed time activities, waking up and making breakfast, playing with them in the basement, playing soccer in the backyard, playing basketball in the driveway and even getting involved in a lot of their crafts,” said Vogel.

“I don’t play a lot of dolls with them,” he joked. “I kinda put them in their rooms for that.”

Part of being a regular dad includes helping coach his youngest daughter Arianna’s soccer team.

The girls agreed he’s a good soccer coach, even if he does yell a lot. They also couldn’t pick their favorite thing about him.

“I don’t know. I love everything about him,” said Arianna.
