Summer program helps teens find jobs

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Teens that are considered at-risk now have a new way to find jobs.

The program is called ‘Teen Works’ and will provide youth with summer employment.

The teenagers will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of jobs from landscaping, working on computers or being a camp counselor.

Many of the teenagers believe these jobs will provide them an opportunity to stay on the path to success.

“They’ll flat out tell me, ‘If I don’t get this job this summer I know then there’s a good chance I’m gonna get in trouble because I’ll have too much time on my hands.’ So we provide them an outlet to do something very constructive, something that’s going to affect them for their entire life,” said Mary Boyer, the Executive Director for the program.

The program is helping over 250 teens find work this summer. In addition to helping them find jobs, the program teaches skill sets that will make the teenagers better employees and citizens.
