5 shot, 3 killed between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 78-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy are among three people who are dead after multiple shootings, the police and Marion County Coroner’s Office said Thursday.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said this string of shootings has been particularly tense in a year that is already breaking deadly records.

It began around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when police responded to a call of multiple shots fired in a neighborhood in the 7200 block of Rue De Margot Drive near West 71st Street and Michigan Avenue. When officers arrived, they said they found three victims in an apartment parking lot. Two of them, 17-year-old Jaivin Hoskin and 22-year-old George Qualls, have died. Police on scene said they didn’t believe this incident is random. Anyone with information about the incident should call Detective Christopher Edwards at the IMPD homicide office at 317-327-3475 or e-mail him at christopher.edwards@indy.gov.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, a woman was found with gunshot wounds in the 4400 block of North Bolton Avenue near Arlington Avenue and 46th Street. Doris Bell, 78, was pronounced dead on scene. The involved parties were detained and subsequently released pending further investigation and a review by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD said in a news release issued Wednesday. Anyone with information about this incident should call Detective Douglas Morning at the IMPD homicide office at 317-327-3475 or e-mail him at douglas.morning@indy.gov.

Suspect information has not been released in these cases.

IMPD believes at least 267 homicides have been recorded in Indianapolis this year.

A fifth person was found shot near a home in the 5000 block of Lewiston Dr. near Georgetown Road and 52nd Street. It happened just after 2 a.m. Wednesday. Officials did not share any details aside from the person being stable.
