Lakyn McGee

Lakyn McGee is a reporter and fill-in anchor for Daybreak. Lakyn joined News 8 in 2021.

She is a two-time Emmy nominated journalist.

Lakyn previously spent three years at WOI in Des Moines, Iowa covering the historic derecho and the first in the nation caucus. Her first TV gig was at KRBK in Springfield, Mo. as a reporter/anchor.

Her most memorable story to cover was the tragedy of the sinking Branson Duck Boat. She also had her own segment called “Fur Kids” where she would feature different animals to be adopted.

Lakyn was born and raised in The Ozarks and is the middle child of five siblings. Fun fact: Lakyn is 19 years older than her youngest sibling.

She graduated from Missouri State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Theatre.

During her time at MSU, Lakyn met her husband in their thesis class where they made a cooking competition show called “Show Me Chefs” that aired on the local ABC station. Lakyn was the host and her husband was the director.

In Lakyn’s spare time, she goes on walks with her dog Chloe, finds new pasta recipes to try, and is always looking for a story to tell.
