IND airport recommends passengers arrive early Friday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis International Airport on Thursday encouraged passengers to arrive early for their Friday flights due to an anticipated high volume of travelers. 

The airport is urging passengers to arrive early for security screenings Friday and Monday.

Passengers traveling between 5-7 a.m. in particular were urged to arrive early so that they could get through long security lines in time for their flights. 

The federal Transportation Security Administration anticipates approximately 16,000 passengers will be traveling through the airport on both Friday and Monday because of fall break, a release from the airport said.

The Indianapolis airport offers a wait-time forecast service on its website, estimating wait times every 30 minutes for both Terminal A and B. Between 4:30-8 a.m., estimated security checkpoint wait time in Terminal A is 11-20 minutes. Terminal B wait times are anticipated between 0-10 minutes most of the morning, increasing at 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. 

The airport statement did not include a recommendation for how early to arrive for your flight. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recommends passengers arrive 2 hours before domestic flights. 

For travelers who have not flown in a year, be aware that as of fall 2017 TSA now requires passengers remove all electronic devices larger than a cell phone while moving belongings through security scanners. That includes devices such as e-readers, tablets, CPAP machines, and DVD players.
