Stolen food truck trailer spotted

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Fans of a local pizza place are keeping an eye out for the restaurant’s stolen food truck, and at least one person said she spotted it on the road.

Byrne’s Grilled Pizza owner Ken Reinstrom said the award-winning food truck trailer was parked near his restaurant at 51st and Illinois streets. He believes someone stole it over the weekend, along with the thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment inside. The staff is using a smaller trailer as a backup.

“The large one that was stolen can fit like two of the grills on it,” sever Bri McCarrick said. “So it’s really kind of a setback to only be able to use the small trailer.”

Two grills, a prep table, two Honda generators, eight propane tanks, tools, signs and other supplies were all inside the trailer.

“We work some late nights here, so it’s just not something you want to have to worry about when you’re walking out to your car,” McCarrick said.

Reinstrom used social media to share pictures of the trailer, which is covered in the restaurant’s logos.

He said he heard back from a woman who saw a white, four-door truck Wednesday night pulling the trailer north on Keystone Avenue. In a Facebook message, the woman told News 8 she got into her car to try to follow the truck, but it got away too quickly.

According to Reinstrom, the restaurant’s name is a tribute to a local priest: the late Rev. Jim Byrne. His face is pictures on the side of the trailer.

“(Reinstrom) wanted me to say Father Byrne wouldn’t approve of (the theft),” McCarrick said.

Reinstrom reported the theft to IMPD. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477.
