Police search for person of interest in fatal shooting outside Lafayette Walmart

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — Police are searching for a man who is a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a woman outside a Lafayette Walmart on Sunday, the Lafayette Police Department said Tuesday afternoon in a news release.

Casey Lewis, 33, of Remington, was shot at the Walmart at 4205 Commerce Drive in Lafayette, that’s five miles east of Purdue University.

Anthony J. Perez, 28, of Lafayette, is the person of interest. He has an active warrant for Escape through Tippecanoe County after cutting off his home detention bracelet. Perez should be considered armed and dangerous.

At 8:40 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the store and found Lewis dead in the parking lot.

Statement

“On September 6, 2022, Tippecanoe County Community Corrections (TCCC) was made aware of an active escape warrant for Anthony J. Perez. Mr. Perez was a participant of Tippecanoe County Community Corrections from August 18, 2022, for possession of methamphetamine 79D02-1910-F5-000167, until his escape from community corrections on September 1, 2022, at which time an escape report was filed with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office. While on Tippecanoe County Community Correction, Mr. Perez was on electronic monitoring, living within the TCCC work release center.

“TCCC is also aware Mr. Perez is a person of interest on a homicide that occurred at Walmart on Sunday, September 4, 2022. Anyone with information regarding the location of Anthony J.
