16-year-old Carmel High School student hurt after crashing vehicle into apartment building
CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — A 16-year-old high school student was seriously injured Friday when he crashed his vehicle into a Carmel apartment building, police said.
“At approximately 5:19 a.m., Carmel police responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into the Olivia on Main building on the southwest corner of Main Street and Old Meridian,” the Carmel Police Department said in a statement.
The driver, identified by police as Carmel High School junior Michael Jent, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, police say. Jent was the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Police believe Jent lost control while driving east on Main Street and hit the building. Investigators do not think the crash was intentional but the cause remains under investigation.
“Michael’s parents have asked the community to please keep him in your thoughts and prayers,” police said.
Main Street was closed in both directions between Old Meridian Street and Grand Vue Drive for several hours of investigation and cleanup.
