INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A section of McCarty Street in downtown Indianapolis has reopened after being closed earlier Monday on reports of a sinkhole, authorities say.

News 8 was initially told the east-west street was closed from Capitol Avenue to Illinois Street, southeast of Lucas Oil Stadium, to accommodate construction equipment that’s sitting in the road.

Indianapolis Department of Public Works said about 2 p.m. Monday that it’s received reports of a sinkhole in the area.

By 8:30 p.m. Monday, News 8 found the road was reopened with orange traffic cones outlining a lane open in each direction.

Just after 10:40 p.m. Monday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to an email from News 8, “There is a sinkhole on East McCarty Street between Capital and Illinois. The area is expected to be closed for the day or two for repairs.”
