Haughville preparing for Michigan Street upgrades

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Local businesses are preparing to cash in on infrastructure upgrades in Haughville. The Public Works Department is working on a $4.7 million construction project.

It will add parking and bike lanes to West Michigan Street between white river parkway west drive to Holmes Ave.

Aaron and Allison Williams are excited about the influx of people expected in Haughville. The Williams worked together to renovate a building in the 2100 block of West Michigan called The Nest Event Center.

“We’re really excited about families that we are ready to meet as far as wedding showers and events and corporate events. We are 5-7 minutes from downtown, it’s a great opportunity for us to open up our door to individuals who are excited to meet and celebrate.”

Jay Goldsby and his fiancée are planning their wedding and hope to host their guests at The Nest.

“We love that it’s close to downtown there is a lot of things to do around this area,” Goldsby said.

Crews with the Public Works Department are moving quickly. “The feedback that we’ve gotten from the community is that they want that connectivity from downtown Indianapolis to IUPUI and have the same benefits of the walkable city that we have in downtown Indianapolis,” said Jayson Watt of the Public Works Department.

The project was scheduled to take two years however, it is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
