Garrett Bergquist brings a decade of statehouse reporting experience to WISH-TV. He joined the team at News 8 in December 2021 after two and a half years as a political reporter for Spectrum News 1 in Raleigh, N.C., a time when the Tar Heel State was in the political spotlight due to ongoing redistricting battles and its status as a swing state in the 2020 presidential election.

Prior to his time in Raleigh, Garrett reported for KRCG 13 in Jefferson City, Mo. for nearly six years. While there, he covered stories ranging from international trade disputes and presidential visits to the first resignation of a Missouri governor in more than 150 years. He also helped launch the station’s drone journalism program.

Garrett is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, where he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. A Chicago-area native and a lifelong racing fan, he’s happy to be back in the Midwest and in the racing capital of the world. Keep an eye out for him next time you’re at a local track.
