Boone Meadow Elementary evacuated due to suspicious beeping object

WHITESTOWN, Ind. (WISH) — A Whitestown elementary school was evacuated Thursday morning due to a “suspicious beeping object” in front of the school, police say.

Just after 7 a.m., police were dispatched to Boone Meadow Elementary located at 5555 S Main S in Whitestown of a “suspicious beeping object” found in a trash can in front of the school, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

A Boone Meadow Elementary School Resource Officer was notified by the school faculty of the “suspicious beeping object” and advised everyone in the building to evacuate out the back entrance, according to a release.

The school was put on lockdown by police and the fire department for investigation. Students and faculty were sent to Zionsville West Middle School to await further instruction.

At 8:30 a.m., the Indianapolis Metropolitan Bomb Squad arrived on the scene to investigate and determined that the beeping sound was a discarded diabetic medical device.

Boone Meadow Elementary was cleared for safety and there is no threat to the community.
