IMPD: Man found dead in alley on near east side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man was found dead Friday morning in an alley a few blocks from Brookside Park on the city’s near east side.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office later identified the man as Markes Day, 19. He died of gunshot wounds, the office says.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called at around 8:15 a.m. to a report of a person down in the 2000 block of East Brookside Avenue. That’s a residential area just off Massachusetts Avenue near I-70.
Officers arrived and found Day in an alley. He had been shot and died before police arrived.
“Preliminary information leads detectives to believe the incident had occurred at a separate location. It is believed the incident occurred during the overnight hours and not just before officers were called,” IMPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Genae Cook said in a release.
Anyone with information about this incident should contact Detective Larry Craciunoiu at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or e-mail him at Larry.Craciunoiu@indy.gov.
