Inmate serving 65 years for murder found dead at Pendleton prison

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) –For the second time in five days, an inmate has been found dead inside a jail cell at the Pendleton Correctional Facility.

James Townsend, 33, was found unresponsive in his cell just before 7 a.m. Monday, nearly a week after 44-year-old Michael Andrew Gibson was also found dead in his jail cell.

Townsend was serving a 65 year sentence for murder in Marion County and was scheduled to be released in 2042.

Foul play is not suspected in Gibson’s death.

The Madison County Coroner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine Townsend’s cause of death.
