‘Gr8 Comeback’: Homespun Indy goods have Hoosier ties and stories

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)– Homespun: Modern Handmade is a boutique, gallery and workshop that has spent more than a decade devoted to serving contemporary handmade crafted goods to the people of Indianapolis.

The shop is packed with the work of more than 400 artists both in Indiana and across the country.

From t-shirts and jewelry to locally made jam and hot sauce, owner Amanda Mauer Taflinger believes that “every object tells a story.” She says some of the makers have local success stories behind their products, while some are calling attention to nonprofit organizations working for causes like domestic violence.

“I think our customers like those stories,” Taflinger said. “They like the information about where the product came from or what the motivation to create it was and then how we got involved with that person.”

In the boutique’s 10th year, the pandemic brought a challenge like no other, but they used that time to grow Homespun’s online presence. With the support the shop has received from the downtown community and beyond, things could be looking up in year 11.
