It’s Autism Awareness month, and part of that awareness is highlighting resources and opportunities for inclusion.

1) Chuck E. Cheese’s on the southside of Indianapolis opens early to offer a sensory-friendly experience on the first Sunday of each month, 9am – 11am.

2) Conner Prairie will open early this Saturday and offer free admission during that time for children with special needs and their families. This will allow a time for children who will benefit from smaller crowds and less noise to enjoy all of the offerings of Conner Prairie.

– There are Quiet Spots located through Conner Prairie

3) Some live theatre shows for children will have tools to make the show more enjoyable for those with sensory sensitivities.

– The Indiana Repertory Theatre offers sensory friendly seating at some of their shows and other items to help facilitate a sensory friendly experience.

4) Local movie theaters offer a “lights up, sound down” moviegoing experience for children with Autism and sensory issues. 

– Hamilton 16 Goodrich Theaters

– The AMC Sensory Friendly Film program

– Studio Movie Grill

5) Many of our local sports teams have also taken an inclusive approach to help their fans enjoy the game.

– Bankers Life, the Indianapolis Colts and the Indianapolis Indians all provide phone numbers for people on staff who can help meet your needs.
