KYLA RUSSELL

Having grown up on the west side of Indianapolis, Kyla Russell is excited and proud to be returning home. Prior to that return, she worked on Capitol Hill, at CNN on the Health unit, and at NBC in New York City on the digital breaking news team. She helped break several national stories for the networks and her work was aired as lead stories. 

Kyla began her career at WISH-TV in the summer of 2022 as an on-camera reporting journalist. She fell in love with telling the Hoosier state’s stories and covering the place and people she knows best. She continued on at WISH-TV and worked as a digital journalist for a year. In that role, she broke several stories on crime and politics. 

Her journalistic roots were born far before that, though. Since she was able to, she’s had a camera in her hands, documenting the big and small moments, and most importantly, always asking questions. 

She’s received several awards for her work, including the ICPA Best Statewide News Story for 2021 and the ICPA Best Statewide Coverage. 

She looks forward to spending more time with friends and family, and especially to eating at all of her favorite Indianapolis restaurants.
