500 Festival needs volunteers to help fuel iconic Month of May events

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — What’s better than watching iconic Month of May events like the AES 500 Festival Parade? Being a part of them.

The 500 Festival needs thousands of volunteers to fuel the parade and other events and traditions that make the Month of May such an exciting and special time in Indianapolis.

“Serving as a 500 Festival volunteer is a rewarding opportunity to impact the lives of community members and to partake in the Month of May celebrations in a unique way,” Bob Byrant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival, said in a release.

With more than 7,000 volunteer positions available in over 100 areas, there’s a role to fit everyone.

Open volunteer positions include, but are not limited to:

  • Handing out participant packets at the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon Expo
  • Distributing snacks and beverages during the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and 500 Festival 5K
  • Hosting fourth-grade class study trips to Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • Escorting marching bands or helping fans find their seats for the 500 Festival Parade

Every 500 Festival volunteer will receive:

  • Invitation to the 500 Festival’s Volunteer Appreciation Day
  • Two tickets to the 2023 Indianapolis 500 qualifications
  • Access to the 500 Festival volunteer virtual goodie bag
  • Snacks and beverages during volunteer shift
  • Special access to 500 Festival programs and events

Volunteers must register for at least one volunteer position by Wednesday, April 12to receive the invitation to the 500 Festival’s Volunteer Appreciation Day and tickets to Indy 500 qualifications.
